The Childrens Fancy Dress Parade

Despite the gloomy predictions, and numerous changes of plan, there was not a hint of rain in Sheffield on Saturday, and by the end of the day the St Marks was bathed in glorious sunshine. The day was kicked off by the children’s fancy dress parade through Broomhill, and by 2 o’clock the 2007 Broomhill Festival Garden Party was in full swing. Cakes, treasures and books where flying off the stalls as over 1000 people came through the gates to enjoy the fantastic atmosphere that surrounded the church all day. A big thanks to all the people who helped at the Garden Party and at all the festival events, your brilliant efforts help to raise an estimated £17,000 for the festival charities! You can find pictures of this years numerous events, including the Garden Party, in the gallery.

The Lord Mayor presents medals to a winning team

Over 90 5-aside teams competed on Sunday in the largest football tournament in Sheffield as part of the Broomhill Festival. Mixed teams in 5 age groups, from Y1 to Y10, were watched by cheering families and the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, who also presented trophies to all the finalists. One of many fantastic events during the 11 day Festival, the occasion was organised by Stephen Priestnall and was sponsored by University of Sheffield and Patak’s Original. Bright sunshine and a lively atmosphere ensured that eager families are already trying to book for next year’s event!

Tim Horton

St Marks Church was filled with the strains of Bach, Schubert and Debussy by the Elias Quartet and Tim Horton as they opened the 2007 Broomhill Festival in style. The packed house not only enjoyed the first of many concerts throughout the festival but also had the opportunity to view the fantastic artwork by Simon Clements and Tracy White's glasswork. Our thanks to Music in the Round and Broomhill Action and Neighbourhood Group for helping making the concert so enjoyable. For further information on upcoming festival events, click here.

16 November 2006The festival team meets the mayor!
The Lord Mayor of Sheffield and the Festival Team
During last years festival the current Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Mrs. Jackie Drayton, was invited to award the medals at 5-a-side football tournament. She was so impressed that she decided to invite the committee and team members to the Town Hall for tea. So on 16th November, for all their hard work, the team visited where treated to a tour of the Town Hall and tea and cakes in the Mayors parlor! Our thanks go out to the Lord Mayor, and the staff at the Town Hall, who made the occasion so memorable.
